I heard her describe how she was having this wonderful experience in nature, only to be met at the lookout by a crowd of happy couples, and realise it was Valentine's Day. I recently received a voice note from my oldest friend who I hadn't seen in months, telling me how she went for a hike by herself recently. I never knew I missed these seemingly minor things until they felt so beautifully familiar when I heard them. The clink of a friend's bracelets, for example, or the particular laugh from another. It's the human aspect missing from texts that adds a level of intimacy and connection, and reminds us of the idiosyncrasies of our loved ones. I remember lying in bed and feeling a little less alone. I got to hear our mutual friend Jack sing songs the two of us made up during our shifts and am reminded of how we are comedic geniuses (maybe not).
